Who (or what?) exactly is Gil?
Gil is a virtual assistant designed to help older adults solve their own technology challenges and to help them learn more about technology.
What kind of questions can I ask Gil?
Anything you can imagine that's related to technology. Gil can help with questions about phones, computers, SmartTVs; Gil can help with email, calendars, messaging; Gil can help with the New York Times Games or using a phone to identify the types of plants in a garden.
What are the top questions people ask?
People generally ask two types of questions: First, ones about helping to solve a problem they're having, such as an iPhone not ringing when someone calls or not knowing how to print a PDF. Second, they use Gil to learn more about technology. Examples of those include helping determine if a new phone is worth upgrading to, or how to use accessibility features of their computer.
What is Gildage and how does it relate to Gil?
Gildage is the company that created Gil. Gildage was founded by two long-time technology executives who believed that they could use their skills and experience to help make technology accessible for older adults. Gil is the first product from Gildage
Is there an App for Gil?
Right now Gil is intended to be used in a web browser on mobile phones, tables (iPads, for example) or computers. We do plan for apps in the future, but not just yet.
Can I have a friend use Gil?
Absolutely! We love when people are so happy with Gil they want their friends to also use it. Just share the link with them and they can sign up! gil.gildage.co
My parent (or grandparent, uncle, etc) would benefit from Gil. Can I sign them up?
For now they have to sign themselves up, but you can help them through the process. If you want to get them started you can enter their email at gil.gildage.co, which will send them an email to register. Just make sure they know you're doing that!
How can Gil help me learn about technology in general?
Gil is great at answering specific question, but he's also excellent as a teacher. You can learn about any new technology topic just by asking Gil to teach you about it!
Does Gil cost money?
Currently all of the versions of Gil are free! In the future we anticipate having a free version of Gil with basic functionality and a paid version of Gil with more bells and whistles.
Does Gil Use Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Yes, Gil uses AI for the conversations. We've customized the AI in three ways: First, the way Gil interacts is tailored to older adults. Second, Gil has been trained on extensive technology knowledge to have expertise in that area. And third, Gil uses the information that you've shared to make it personalized and specific.
Is Gil's AI safe to use?
Yes! We've trained Gil to make sure that his responses are accurate and non-damaging, and we make sure to protect your data. That said, AI still can sometimes give wrong answers, so please be careful implementing any feedback. We also implement all modern security best practices to ensure your data is secure.
